Neurula denotes an embryo in the stage in which the nervous system develops in people. It represents the first moment that our nervous system is shaped, and therefore, the aging of the nervous system begins. Every event after that can influence one's susceptibility to Alzheimer's disease, which is among the most severe health problems facing modern society.
Our work at Neurula Lab spans the gamut from pharmacological and genetic studies on laboratory models to clinical studies on human patients. We are working to understand the brain mechanisms that promote the onset of Alzheimer's, how the brain changes its function in response to the disease, and how it responds to therapeutic interventions. These fundamental questions will form the foundation for new clinical treatments.
